A company will be set up in the State to promote development of railway projects, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu has said. He was addressing presspersons at Karwar on Monday.
Earlier, he visited the Karwar Railway Station and reviewed development works.
Mr. Prabhu said that Union and State governments would collaborate to set up the company.
Speaking about Konkan Railway route, Mr. Prabhu said that there were plans for track doubling and electrification. Speed limit would be gradually increased to 130 km an hour and later to 160 km an hour. There was also a plan to provide Konkan delicacies such as kokum and cashewnut delicacies to give priority to local products, he said. The Minister said that the launch of the Ankola-Hubballi rail line was lagging behind due to the elephant corridor problem and efforts were on to solve it.
