Chennai-Mysore High Speed Rail May Not Reach Full Speed: Report

BANGALORE: A preliminary inspection for the Chennai-Mysore High Speed Rail Link by a team consisting of railway authorities is said to have revealed that at present the trains will travel at a speed of 85 km per hour.

The inspection comes ahead of a visit by a Chinese team, with whom the railways have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
According to officials the curvature of the Bangalore-Mysore route is a concern.
The team is looking at the possibility of using shorter rakes of 8-10 coaches to reduce the problem that the curves along the route may cause.
However, despite this, it is unlikely that trains will be able to reach its expected speed of 165 kms per hour but may be able to reach a speed of about 135 kms per hour.
Officials said that this was only a preliminary study, done by manually collecting data.
